Microsoft Announces the New Surface Pro 3

Microsoft Announces the New Surface Pro 3

Microsoft recently announced it’s larger version of their Surface tablet. Microsoft is hoping the Surface Pro 3 makes their latest tablet more compelling as a laptop replacement.

The new Surface Pro 3 will have a screen measuring 12 inches diagonally, which is almost 2 more inches than the 10.6 inch screens in their previous models. Microsoft has been working closely with Intel Corporation to maximize the performance in a slim tablet device. The Pro 3 is said to be thinner and faster than before.

Corporate vice president for Surface Computing at Microsoft, Panos Panay, says that “this is the tablet that can replace a laptop.” The Surface was already meant to tackle tasks that people usually use a laptop for, such as creating documents and editing movies. Now with the Pro 3, the built-in kickstand can be adjusted to a range of positions, similar to a laptop’s screen opening at various angles. Each Pro 3 will come with a stylus that feels like an actual pen to make the touchscreen experience smoother. Additionaly, the touchpad on the optional keyboard cover has been improved.

The Surface Pro 3, which was announced at in event on Tuesday, will go on sale this summer. The new tablet will start at $799 – Microsoft will begin taking orders Wednesday.
